MADRA @adoolan34 It seems to be due to genetic factors but white dogs seem have a higher risk. Casper has some hearing ability. 💕🐶
Our statistics for 2017 are posted below but to sum up, we are proud to say that we took in 789 dogs and we rehomed 733 dogs in 2017! We would like to thank everyone who helped us out in 2017. Thank you to the angel foster families, adopters, our fostering coordinators, our re-homing team (GO MARINA!) , our kennel crew, our amazing volunteers, our home checkers, photographer Tracy Kirby, the dog taxi heroes, the pounds who worked alongside us to ensure these dogs could come to us for rehoming, to the wonderful vets we work with who strive to deliver the highest standard of care to our dogs. Thank you to everyone who held a fundraiser, showed up to one or donated towards our ever-increasing costs for the large number of dogs we took in and cared for over the year. We sincerely thank you all. We could not continue our work without your support and donations.

Yet again, for several years in a row, the border collie remains, by far,  the breed of dog who arrives into us the most, a shocking 282 collies arrived through our gates in just a twelve month period. It has been a very tough year for our team from dealing with such high numbers of dogs and puppies in our care. We also took in beagles who were rescued by the ISPCA from an animal testing facility in the summer, who are now living the life they always deserved to live. We still have a high number of dogs in our kennels, external boarding kennels and foster homes. We also anticipate that 2018 will be a very busy year for us so if you are thinking of getting a dog, PLEASE PLEASE offer a loving home to a rescue dog or puppy.  We also must mention that we have had a very high number of dogs who were privately surrendered to our care in 2017 due to a variety of reasons but one of main reasons is that their heartbroken families have been told by their landlords that they are not allowed to have pets.  If you are thinking of getting a dog, please ensure you have your landlord’s permission and that you have a plan in place in case your circumstances change. Our kennel space is always very limited and we have a long waiting list of private surrender dogs. Our main priority is making space for the dogs who are in the pounds.
