All about me

  • Name: Twinkle
  • Gender: Female
  • Approx. age: 2 years
  • Breed: Labrador X
  • Description: I’m called Twinkle because despite the obvious terror I felt when I arrived here, the humans here said they spotted a faint twinkle in my eye! I’ll be perfectly honest with you and tell you I can’t remember much about my past or how I ended up here just before Christmas. Sometimes it’s easier to block out the sad and confusing moments in life. You can’t even begin to imagine the fear I felt when I arrived...all these strange people and dogs, many dogs everywhere. I just curled myself tightly up into a ball and tried to make myself invisible. I stayed like this for weeks. I just couldn’t bear to let the humans near me. The funny thing is, they kept coming to sit beside me speaking in soothing tones and offering me irresistible treats. I really did want to trust them but I was just so scared. you know what? They kept coming back and they were ever so gentle that I decided to open my heart up slowly to them. Well now I just can’t stop wagging my tail when they come into my kennel! I know they will stroke me on my neck in such a heavenly way and give me lots of belly rubs (they said I give them funny looks when they stop!). They are so reassuring and the nice treats help too! I wasn’t in a bad condition physically when I arrived here so the humans here think I just wasn’t very well socialised. This means that things which are no biggie to other dogs are a bit more challenging for me. The main concern is that I’m terrified to walk on a lead. I really need a quiet home, even a foster home where someone can teach me that new things can lead to lots of fun. I just don’t quite believe it yet. I’d like someone who can start by getting me used to wearing a harness and then progressing to walks when I’m feeling braver. It’s not essential but it would be a huge bonus if you have a caring dog who would be happy to take me under their wing. A secure garden would be groovy so I could finally get some fresh air without that intimidating thing around my neck. Don’t worry, it’s not all doom and gloom with me! I’m young, sweet and if you are up for it, you can have the privilege of helping me unlock the rest of my personality (remember, there’s a reason why I’m called Twinkle!!!). I’ve seen many dogs come and go since I arrived here that I’m starting to believe what the humans here keep saying “there isn’t a creature on earth who doesn’t flourish with sincere love and kindness” will you be the one to help me flourish???
